Croydon-born Asha burst onto the London scene as one of the most promising new voices in the industry with support coming from all angles: from underground station Rinse FM to BBC R1Xtra, her first release ‘We Can Do This’ saw her grab heavyweight online acclaim from the likes of PIGEONS & PLANES and THE405.
The bigger publications started to take note and her next two singles ‘Chapters’ and ‘Record Straight’ received support from the likes of THE FADER, grabbing ‘Song of the Week’ at BBC R1Xtra in the process.
Asha’s strength and charisma stood her out as one of the strongest emerging artists in the city, picking up BBC R1Xtra’s ‘Artist of the Week’. Then life got in the way and Asha went into a brief hiatus, working a string of jobs whilst continuing to hone her music.
Her new single ‘To the Edge’ follows on from her critically acclaimed release ‘Say My Name’ in September. Asha’s incredibly strong charisma is balanced by an incredibly controlled, subtle and shiver-inducing vocal that conjures immediate comparisons to a young Jessie Ware at her potent prime. ‘To The Edge’ is more magic from a wonderfully elusive artist; the Croydon native continues to speak to her generation, laying down a marker for realness, truth and in possession of a pure talent you can’t help but get excited by.
